Flygildi is an Iceland-based company, founded in 2012 with the sole purpose of developing, maturing and commercializing a ground-breaking drone solution for covert and silent operations.  The idea was born in 2008 by its founders Mr. Hjalti Hardarson and Dr. Leifur Thor Leifsson, who boast of more than 20 years’ extensive international experience in the development and commercialization of autonomous unmanned vehicles, both for aerial and underwater usage.

The core technology is a novel wing design for a game-changing drone, which can mimic the performance of an actual bird, thereby emitting < 70dB of noise, while blending in with the surroundings through customizable appearance. This makes Silent Flyer a unique, first-of-its-kind UAV, which will be a game-changer for silent, small SUAS applications.

  1. Hugrún ehf in 1982 and later Hafmynd ehf in 1999. Hugrun ehf manufactured and sold underwater date acquisition instrumentation and was acquired by Norwegian investors in 1997.
  2. Hafmynd ehf manufactured and sold the well-known Gavia autonomous underwater vehicle. The Gavia is used for mine counter measures by the US navy, Russian navy and various other defence organizations worldwide. Helga Viðarsdóttir

Helga is our CEO.

She holds a MSc. in Business Administration and Marketing. She has extensive experience in business management, developing company financing and marketing strategies. She manages her own financial consulting business and has occupied positions of top responsibility in companies such as IMC Ísland ehf, The Nordic House and 66° North Ltd. She is the Project Manager and the team leader.

Björn Agust Björnsson

Björn Agust Björnsson is the CCO of Flygildi.

He holds a Cand Sci degree in Mechanical Engineering and MSc degree in Reliability Engineering and Safety Management. He has previously managed sales and partnerships for a tech start-up and is an experienced fund manager. He is a VC investor that fully believes in the Silent Flyer endeavour and is highly committed to it. He is the Project Commercial Director, leading Work Package WP4.

Dr Peter Höller is CTO of Flygildi and shareholder.

Peter holds a PhD in technical sciences with a thesis in the field of Distributed Satellite Network Control Systems and an MSc. Engineering in Applied Computer Sciences for Aerospace applications. He is an expert in IT/Software project management (conventional and agile approaches), teams and resource management. He is our project Technical Director and leader of WP1 and WP2.
